International Food Security Day

Today is International Food Security Day. It is a fundamental right that we strive to guarantee through our daily actions.

  • At Mango’s Home and Prem Niketan, we provide safe food and shelter for children from broken families and girls with disabilities. We offer them balanced meals and a protected environment in which to grow.
  • In eight primary, middle and high schools in five slums in Vijayawada, we distribute nutritious snacks to over 1,250 students who attend after-school programmes, because we believe that learning begins with proper nutrition.
  • We organise nutrition classes and cooking demonstrations in anganwadis (kindergartens), where mothers and teachers learn how to prepare healthy, balanced meals.
  • After the floods that hit several areas of Vijayawada last September, we started an emergency food programme for families who had lost everything.

Each of our projects – from education and nutrition to income support and emergency response – is united by the common goal of ensuring food security as a basis for dignity and a future.
