IMPORTANT WARNING: FLOODING IN VIJAYAWADA

From Vijayawada, we are receiving images of the recent flooding that has brought several areas of the city to their knees; these are the places where “our” people live: the five slums where we work with the Edu-Care project and the Future of India network, Autonagar, where our Mangoes Home and office are located, and Ibrahimpatnam, where Prem Niketan, a home for girls and young women with disabilities, is located.

Weather warnings have been issued for the next five days, with heavy rains expected. There hasn’t been a cyclone of this intensity since 1997.

We are in constant contact with our staff on the ground, who are monitoring the situation with the children, their families and “our” communities, despite the difficulties in communication, in order to define an action plan that will be coordinated with the aid organised by the government authorities.
