FLOOD EMERGENCY

Relief activities

 

Over the past few weeks, we have told you about the hardships faced by the people of Vijayawada following the floods that hit the city in September, the worst in 200 years. Many have lost what little they had and are living in a state of emergency.

 

We have organised a relief operation for the affected communities, which includes

  • The distribution of 570 medical and food kits to families of children and young people who are part of our remote support programme or who attend literacy centres in the slums of Vijayawada.
  • The delivery of 450 school kits to children who no longer have school bags, books or exercise books.
  • Repairing 88 tools, the only source of livelihood for women in the
  • Women4Change programme
    Repairs to Prem Niketan in Ibrahimpatnam, a home for 30 girls with disabilities.

Distribution activities have just begun, but much remains to be done to reach the more than 2,500 people who will benefit from our intervention.
