AngaCare Surya: strengthening anganwadi centres in India

In the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, India, the AngaCare Surya project, funded through Italy’s Eight per Thousand (Otto per Mille) programme under direct state management, has supported the rehabilitation and strengthening of 10 anganwadi centres, enhancing their role as essential community spaces for health, nutrition, and early childhood development.

The project included the reconstruction and renovation of facilities, improvements to water supply and sanitation, the upgrading of kitchen areas, the creation and restoration of nutrition gardens, and the decoration of classrooms with educational murals to provide a more welcoming and child-friendly learning environment.

The upgraded centres now serve a total of 366 children aged 0 to 6, contributing to better nutrition, improved hygiene, and healthier early childhood development for children and their communities.
